Child Welfare Disability Resource Cards

Children with various types of disabilities make up large portions of child welfare caseloads. In fact, research has shown that children with disabilities are more than three times more likely to experience maltreatment than children without disabilities.

During this (past) academic year two Master of Social Work students who also had the distinction of also being LEND Fellows (Leadership and Education in Neurodevelopmental and Other Related Disorders) created a series of resource cards on children with disabilities in child welfare in partnership with CASCW.

To assist workers in identifying and providing quality services to these children and their families, the resource cards provide definitions of different types of disability, rates of prevalence, and practice suggestions for working with children with different types of disabilities.”
