As part of the Field Notes blog, we will be profiling MSW Title IV-E child welfare students and their field instructors in order to acknowledge the many social work professionals with whom they are working as well as to provide the public with some insight into the content and variety of MSW child welfare field placements.
In this post, a Title IV-E child welfare student writes about his field placement experience at Hennepin County’s Extended Foster Care Unit.
MSW Title IV-E Child Welfare Student: Derek Zumbach
Field Task Supervisor: Patty Snow
Field Site: Extended Foster Care Unit at Hennepin County Social Services
“Working with Patty in Hennepin County’s Extended Foster Care Unit has been great. She’s been amazing at teaching me the ropes, and I’ve loved the whole experience of assisting youth with their transition into independent living. Extended Foster Care is also great to work in because it offers many opportunities to learn about the rest of the child welfare system as well.”
