Last week, all U of MN Twin Cities MSW 2nd year and Advanced Standing IV-E students attended 3 days of the DHS Child Welfare Foundation Training. Prior to this training, they also completed approximately 20 hours of on-line training modules. These trainings covered a wide variety of relevant topics such as family systems, child development, Structure Decision Making, SSIS and child welfare worker well-being. In the next few months, these students will continue with on-line module learning and will take their last 3 day training at DHS in early February.
We are very excited about this partnership with DHS! The Child Welfare Foundation Training is a mandatory training for all newly hired child welfare workers in counties throughout the state of Minnesota, as well as new hires from White Earth and Leech Lake Reservations. This is the first year that we have partnered with DHS to make this online and classroom training available to IV-E MSW students. It is a fantastic opportunity for our students to support their county child protection/ child welfare field placements, enhance their classroom learning in the MSW curriculum, and have this training completed as they move into employment in a county or tribal child welfare setting upon graduation.
