Many are familiar with the University of Minnesota’s official brand message, Driven to Discover, which captures the essence of students’ search for new learning, knowledge and skills. Here at CASCW, we ask our IV-E students to make a statement at the beginning of their field placements, which helps frame an intention for learning in their specific field setting. Here are a few examples from IV-E students this past year.
I am Driven to Discover…
“best practices in child protection.”
“how to successfully unite children and families through adoption.”
“new learning experiences with children at risk for maltreatment, as well as working with families.”
“how to support youth that are ‘aging out’ of the foster care system to accomplish their own goals and become healthy, independent adults.”
“new ways to help children identify and share their feelings, enhance their coping skills and engage with their families through safe, loving interactions.”
“how to be a strong partner in creating permanent family connections for our children in the foster care system.”
“how to successfully support children and families transition with a sense of community and purpose.”
“how to be a compassionate and effective Child Protection Social Worker.”
