Brief Overview
Following the 13th annual conference, there was a special event honoring the 20th anniversary of the Center for Advanced Studies in Child Welfare. Since its beginnings in 1992, the Center has addressed itself to providing, education, training and information for child welfare professionals, students, and policy makers. The 20th Anniversary Celebration honored the work of those who have been affiliated with the Center along with the many Title IV-E graduates of the School of Social Work.
Our special thanks to featured Title IV-E alumni speakers, Reggie Bicha and Iris Heavy Runner Pretty Paint, and to the CASCW Child Welfare Leadership Award winner, Anita Fineday. We were pleased to hear from the founders and directors of CASCW: Jean Quam, Esther Wattenberg, Marcie Jeffreys, and Traci LaLiberte as well as Jane Kretzman, formerly of the Bush Foundation, and Erin Sullivan-Sutton, of the Minnesota Department of Human Services; both organizations were instrumental in the founding and ongoing existence of the Center. The celebration included a collection of editorials written by founding director, Esther Wattenberg.
