A Cross-Cultural Look at Stigmatization Caregiver Relationships of Children with Disabilities (1.0 hr)

This series highlights the role of stigmatization in caregiver-educator and caregiver-professional relationships, cultural variations in responses to stigmatization and disability, and implications for policy and practice.

Module 1: This module hopes to assist viewers in understanding the role of stigmatization in caregiver-educator relationships, understanding cultural variations in caregivers’ and educators’ responses to stigmatization and disability, and to learn various strategies to build and maintain trusting caregiver-educator relationships. At the end of the module, the authors will discuss implications and encourage viewers to reflect on their own practices, and think about any implications from cross-cultural cases they may have experienced.

Module 2: The goals of this second module are to understand the role of stigmatization in caregiver-professional relationships, understand the importance of collaborative caregiver-professional relationships, discuss cultural variations in professionals’ strategies to build and maintain collaborative relationships with caregivers of children with disabilities, and to reflect on your own practice, and think about the implications from cross-cultural cases.
