Minnesota is fortunate to host many organizations that provide post-adoption services. Of course, I need to put in a plug for our Directory of Professionals that have completed the Permanency and Adoption Competency Certificate program. The Directory is searchable; you can search for a therapist by geographical area, practice specialty, licensure, and more.
In addition to this resource, a few others I would like to highlight:
MN Adopt (www.mmadopt.org) – an organization that provides information, training and support for foster, adoptive and kinship families. MN Adopt is also home of the unique HELP program, which connects families with immediate supportive services. MN Adopt (formerly known as Minnesota Adoption Resource Network, or MARN) was founded in 1980 with the mission of advocating for the right of every child in Minnesota to find a permanent home. Over the years, MN Adopt has provided pre- and post-adoption resources for thousands of families. MN Adopt is not a placing agency. MN Adopt is the host of the State Adoption Exchange, the online registry of Minnesota’s waiting children. Their fact sheets, trainings, webinars, and programs have been shared nationally.
Parent Support Groups and other resources through the North American Council on Adoptable Children (NACAC) have provided help for families in Minnesota and nationally since 1974. NACAC hosts a yearly conference focusing on permanency and adoption and has been a leader in adoption assistance advocacy and many other adoption policies. In particular, NACAC is known for their robust parent support groups, providing assistance and support for adoptive parents and their children as well as resources for how parents and organizations can start their own support group. NACAC hosts a searchable database of over 900 parent support groups nation-wide.
